Don’t plan on using your Oyster card if you’re planning a trip to Shepperton anytime soon.
Anyone who’s travelled by train to Hampton or beyond will know from the train announcement that Oyster Cards aren’t accepted beyond Hampton.
Recent news, such as TfL’s plans to take over suburban rail services and the Department for Transport (DfT) announcing plans to extend Oyster to parts of Surrey, has given hope to campaigners that services to Shepperton may finally become part of the Oyster network.
But, the DfT have confirmed that “no proposals have been received from [train] operators to include Oyster pay-as-you-go to Ashford, Sunbury, Shepperton and Staines”.
So if you’re not a fan of paper tickets, for the time being, you’ll have to continue taking day-trips in only one direction out of Hampton station.
